1 arrested over murder of freedom fighter, wife in Rangpur
Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of freedom fighter Jogesh Chandra Roy and his wife Suborna Roy at their home in Taraganj of Rangpur.
The arrested individual, Morsalin, a mason’s assistant, was arrested at his residence in Khiar Jumma of Taraganj early Friday morning (December 12). He is believed to be the main perpetrator.
Inspector Abu Shaium Talukdar (case officer) of Taraganj Police Station, said the suspect was apprehended with the help of technological assistance.
Preliminary interrogation has yielded crucial information, including details about the Chinese machete used in the attack.
Authorities are working to recover the weapon and will provide further updates on the motive in a subsequent briefing.
The incident occurred on December 6 in Rahimpur village, when police recovered the bloodied bodies of Jogesh Chandra Roy, a retired government primary school headmaster, from the dining room, and his wife Suborna Roy from the kitchen. Both were buried with state honours on the following day.
Their son, Shovon Chandra Roy, filed a murder case naming unknown individuals as suspects.
