10 killed in Gaza as Israeli strikes continue despite truce talks
Israel and Palestinian group Hamas entered indirect talks in Egypt’s resort city of Sharm El Sheikh on ending the Gaza war under a ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump. Despite the ongoing negotiations, Israeli forces have continued strikes in Gaza.
Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported that between Monday morning and evening, October 6, at least ten people were killed by Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) fire in Gaza. Among them, three died while waiting for food and aid.
Last week, US President Trump introduced a new ceasefire plan for Gaza, which Israel welcomed immediately, followed by Hamas’s approval on October 3. On October 4, Trump urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt strikes and bombardment in Gaza. Netanyahu responded with a statement saying he had instructed the IDF to stop.
However, Gaza-based sources said that in the three days since Trump’s appeal, 104 people have been killed in Israeli attacks. All of them died from IDF fire.
Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian defended the military actions in a briefing, claiming Israel has been conducting “defensive operations” since Trump’s call.
Meanwhile, Egyptian daily Al Kahera News reported that the first session of ceasefire discussions began on Monday in Sharm El Sheikh, with representatives from Israel, the US, Qatar, Egypt and Hamas. Egyptian officials said initial talks focused on the release of remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza and Palestinians imprisoned in Israel.
