12 BGB platoons deployed in Dhaka and nearby districts

Twelve platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh BGB have been deployed to maintain overall law and order and ensure security in Dhaka and adjoining districts.

BGB public relations officer Md Shariful Islam confirmed the information on Friday. He said 12 BGB platoons have been deployed to ensure overall security and law and order in Dhaka and adjacent districts.

On Thursday around 10.30pm, miscreants set fire to a bus at the Shah Ali embankment area. Witnesses said two assailants set fire to the parked Kiranmala bus and tried to flee. Locals chased them and detained one of them. The other jumped into the Turag River while escaping. He was later rescued in critical condition and taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A fire service unit reached the spot and brought the blaze under control. The seats and window glass of the bus were burnt. Shah Ali police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The detainees have been handed over to police.

Shah Ali police station officer-in-charge Golam Azam said the incident occurred when miscreants tried to set fire to a Kiranmala Paribahan bus parked in front of Tamanna Park on the embankment at around 10.30pm on Thursday. One person died after falling into the Turag River while fleeing after setting the fire.

At around 3am on Wednesday, a lagoon was set on fire in Kamalapur.
