At least 13 civilians, including women and children, have been killed in an attack by Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the troubled Darfur region, according to a local medical group.

The Sudan Doctors Network said the assault took place on Sunday (24 August) along the road connecting El-Fasher and Tuela.

Among the dead were five children, four women, and four elderly people, reports BBC.

The organisation described the incident as ethnically motivated, calling it "another chapter in the ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide by RSF against unarmed civilians in Darfur."

The attack comes a day after RSF forces reportedly shelled a hospital in El-Fasher, injuring a health worker and six patients, including a child and a pregnant woman.

The RSF has not commented on either incident. However, the group has faced mounting accusations of war crimes and ethnic violence since Sudan's civil conflict escalated last year.

Darfur has been one of the hardest-hit regions in Sudan's conflict, with widespread reports of atrocities, including mass killings, sexual violence, and the targeting of ethnic communities.
