138 Palestinians killed in one day in Gaza amid Israeli attacks
At least 138 Palestinians were killed in the latest Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip in just one day. Another 625 people were injured. The Gaza Health Ministry shared this information in a statement on Friday evening.
The statement said that from Thursday to Friday, the total number of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza over the past 21 months has reached 57,268. More than 135,173 people have been injured.
According to the Health Ministry, the actual number of casualties could be higher. Many people are still trapped under the rubble and have not yet been rescued.
Since the sudden attack by the armed group Hamas in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been carrying out operations in Gaza. At least 1,200 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas attack, and 251 people were taken hostage.
In response to the attack, Israel announced a ceasefire on January 19 this year due to international pressure. However, the ceasefire was broken, and the IDF resumed military operations in Gaza on March 18.
In this second phase of attacks over the past two and a half months, more than 6,710 Palestinians have been killed, and nearly 23,584 have been injured.
Among the 251 hostages held by Hamas, it is believed that at least 35 are still alive. The Israeli military has said that it aims to rescue the hostages through ongoing military operations.
