16 detained for entering polling station in Feni

At least 16 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami have been detained for entering a polling station forcibly in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni. Of them, 13 have been fined Tk3,000 each, totaling Tk 39,000, and the remaining three have been released.

The incident took place at the Dakshin Satar Government Primary School polling station in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni-1 parliamentary constituency at 7pm on Wednesday. Assistant Returning Officer and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Syed Farhana Pritha confirmed the matter at 1 am.

According to mobile court sources, 16 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat forcibly entered the polling station in the evening. The police members on duty immediately captured them. Later, Assistant Returning Officer and Chhagalnaiya Upazila Executive Officer Syed Farhana Pritha and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Shahid Ullah went to the spot.

Among the detained persons, seven are from BNP and nine from Jamaat-e-Islami.

Assistant Returning Officer Syed Farhana Pritha said that 13 people have been fined Tk 3,000 each for forcibly entering the polling station. The remaining three have been released. In addition, the overall security of the polling station has been strengthened.
