16 more children die from measles in 24 hours

The measles outbreak continues to worsen across the country, with 16 more children dying from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours, according to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday, May 24.

During the same period, 1,434 new children showed symptoms of the disease.

The report covers the 24-hour period from 8:00 am on Saturday, May 23, to 8:00 am on Sunday, May 24. A total of 1,306 new suspected measles cases were detected, while 128 patients were confirmed through laboratory tests.

Since March 15, a total of 63,813 suspected measles cases have been detected, with 8,622 confirmed cases. A total of 50,558 patients have been hospitalised with suspected measles symptoms, of whom 46,214 have recovered and returned home.

A total of 442 children have died from suspected measles symptoms since March 15, with 86 confirmed measles deaths. No confirmed measles deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, but 16 children died from suspected measles symptoms.
