A large shipment of KitKat chocolate has been stolen during transport in Europe, raising concerns of shortages ahead of the upcoming Easter holiday.

According to a report by British media outlet The Guardian, approximately 413,793 KitKat bars, with a total weight of around 12 tonnes, were stolen from a truck on March 26.

The truck was travelling from a factory in Italy to Poland when unidentified thieves looted the entire shipment. No trace of the truck or the chocolates has been found so far.

Nestlé, the parent company of KitKat, said it is investigating the matter in collaboration with local authorities and transport partners. The company fears the products may be sold on the illegal market. However, it has been noted that each chocolate bar has a batch code that can be used for identification.

Nestlé also informed that the stolen shipment was part of KitKat's new Formula 1 (F1) themed series, a special edition shaped like racing cars.

In response to the incident, Nestlé humourously referenced its famous slogan, stating that while they usually encourage people to "take a break" with KitKat, the thieves took it a step too far by taking a break with over 12 tonnes of chocolate.

The company and law enforcement agencies are continuing investigations to identify those involved in the theft and recover the stolen goods.
