20 female volleyball players were killed in Iran gym attack: Local media
A strike on a gym in southern Iran killed 20 female volleyball players, the Iranian TV channel Al Mayadeen reported on February 28.
"20 volleyball players died as a result of Israeli aggression directed against a sports hall in the town of Lamerd in the province of Fars," the TV channel reports, citing data from local authorities.
Earlier on Saturday, Israel struck a gym in the city of Lamerde in southern Iran, initially killing more than 15 people. According to the IRIB news agency, there were children in the building at the time of the attack. Tashim agency clarifies that the strike hit four more facilities in the city.
Iranian Red Crescent reported the deaths of more than 200 people in Israeli and US strikes on Iran while 747 residents were injured. It was noted that 220 Red Crescent task forces were at the sites of the strikes.
An attack on an elementary school for girls in southern Iran killed at least 85 people.
On the morning of February 28, Israel launched a preemptive attack on Iran. At the same time, the US president announced the beginning of a military operation by the state against Iran. During it, military installations in western Iran and the residence of the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were destroyed and he was killed.
Subsequently, Iran sent missiles towards Israel. In addition, the US Fifth Fleet maintenance center was shelled in Bahrain. Iran also carried out an attack on four US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. Because of this, the United States began evacuating some personnel from the Al-Udeid air base in Qatar.
