25 killed in road accident in Afghanistan
At least 25 people have died in a road accident in eastern Afghanistan. Another 27 people were injured. The accident occurred on Wednesday morning (August 27), according to AFP.
Abdul Matin Khani, a spokesperson for the country’s Ministry of Interior, said the bus overturned on the highway from the capital Kabul to the southern city of Kandahar due to driver negligence. Twenty-five people died on the spot, and 27 injured were rushed to the hospital. Details about the condition of the injured have not been provided.
Deadly road accidents are common in Afghanistan. Poor roads, reckless driving, and lack of effective traffic control are often cited as reasons for such accidents.
Last week, on Tuesday, at least 78 people were killed in a severe accident in western Herat province. More than 12 of the victims were children. The accident occurred when a bus carrying migrant workers returning from Iran collided with a motorcycle and a truck.
Additionally, in December last year, a fuel tanker and two buses collided on a highway in central Afghanistan, killing at least 52 people.
