3 advisors working for a political party, misleading CA: Taher
Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer (Deputy Chief) Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has accused three advisers to the interim government of working for a political party and misleading the chief adviser (CA).
He claimed the advisers are providing false information and manipulating the government to prevent a fair election.
Taher made the remarks during a joint press conference of eight opposition-aligned parties at the Al-Falah Hall, adjacent to Jamaat’s central office in capital's Mogbazar on Friday morning (November 14).
His remarks were made in response to the chief adviser’s recent address to the nation.
He criticised a political party for allegedly prioritising the national parliamentary election over a planned referendum, arguing that low voter turnout in the referendum could be used to undermine reform efforts. Taher described this as a “trap” that the government has fallen into, intentionally or unknowingly, which diminishes the importance of reforms.
Taher also claimed that the government had previously shown loyalty or weakness toward the same party, citing the announcement of the election date in London and the unilateral declaration of the Election Commission’s roadmap without consulting other parties.
The press conference was attended by leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Bangladesh Nizam-e-Islam Party, Bangladesh Development Party, and Jatiya Ganotantrik Party, who together are part of a joint movement demanding implementation of the July National Charter, conducting the November referendum, ensuring a level playing field in elections, and four other key demands.
