Police have recovered the bodies of three young men from a remote hilly area in Baharchhara union under Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar, triggering widespread concern in the locality.

The bodies were found in a dense forested area of North Shilkhali when a group of wood collectors spotted them while gathering firewood around 10:30am on Tuesday (April 21). They later informed local residents, after which the incident quickly spread. Police from the Baharchhara investigation centre subsequently recovered the bodies from the scene.

Confirming the incident, Inspector Durjoy Biswas of the Baharchhara investigation centre said the bodies were found in a secluded area deep inside the hills.

Preliminary assessments suggest the incident may have occurred only a few hours before the discovery. Authorities are investigating whether there were visible injury marks on the bodies.

The deceased have been identified as Mujib, son of Nurul Kabir; Nurul Bashar, son of Nurul Islam; and Rabiul Awal, son of Ruhul Amin—all residents of the same locality.

Police and local sources said it is being examined whether the three had been missing for several days. Investigators are also looking into possible prior enmity or involvement in any criminal activity.

The bodies will be sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Police said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report.

Following the incident, panic has spread among locals. Residents have urged authorities to strengthen security patrols in the remote hilly areas to prevent similar occurrences.

Police said investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances behind the deaths.
