3 candidates withdraw candidacy in BCB elections, 8 directors elected unopposed

Three candidates have withdrawn their candidacy in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections. At the same time, 8 directors have been elected unopposed. The BCB elections will be held on June 7.

The final list of candidates was published after the deadline for withdrawal of candidacy ended on Monday (May 25) afternoon. It can be seen that voting will be held in only two categories from Category-1. And the main competition will be in Category-2 or Club category, where 16 candidates will compete against 12 director posts. The current head of the BCB ad hoc committee, Tamim Iqbal, is electing from this category.

On the day of withdrawal of candidacy, Feni District Sports Association Councilor Shariful Islam (Apu) resigned from the Chattogram division. Former captain and former chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Laxmipur District Sports Association Councilor Moin Uddin Chowdhury were elected as directors unopposed from Chattogram Division.

In addition, Saeed Bin Zaman and SM Abdullah Al Fuad from Dhaka Division, Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury from Sylhet Division, Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto from Rajshahi Division and Mirza Faisal Amin from Rangpur Division were elected as directors unopposed from Category-1.

The sole candidate from Category-3, Chattogram University Councilor Sirajuddin Md. Alamgir, was also elected unopposed. He first became a BCB director in 2005.

According to BCB rules, there are 10 director posts in Category-1, 12 in Category-2 and 1 in Category-3. In addition, two more directors will be added to the nominations of the National Sports Council. Due to uncontested elections in some categories in Category-1, voting will be held in only two categories this time.

Three candidates are contesting for two posts in Khulna category and two for one post in Barisal category.

On the other hand, a total of 16 candidates including Tamim Iqbal, Fahim Sinha, Masuduzzaman, Shakib Ahmed Salam are participating in the election in Category-2 or Club category.
