3 cleaners arrested for allegedly raping mother of child patient at Natore hospital
Three cleaning staff have been arrested on charges of raping the mother of a child undergoing treatment at Natore 250-bed General Hospital. The accused have been identified as Amit, 23, Anil, 23, and Prangan, 24. A case has been filed at Sadar Police Station based on the victim family's complaint.
According to the case statement and family sources, the child was admitted to the paediatric ward of the hospital four days ago. On the night of June 7, an outsourced cleaning staff member named Amit called the woman away, claiming he would give her medicine. He then took her to the staircase on the sixth floor of the hospital and allegedly raped her.
Amit's accomplices, Anil and Prangan, recorded the incident on video. They then allegedly used the video to blackmail the victim and attempted to rape her again.
Around 2:00 am, duty Ansar members became suspicious after monitoring CCTV footage and went to the sixth floor, where they caught the accused red-handed. They were then handed over to hospital authorities.
The incident has sparked outrage among patients, attendants and locals, who have demanded a neutral investigation and exemplary punishment for those involved.
The victim's family filed a case at Natore Sadar Police Station on Tuesday afternoon, following which police arrested the three accused.
Police said a detailed investigation is underway, including whether others were involved and reviewing hospital security measures.
