Three protesters were killed and 30 injured in firing by security forces in India's northeastern state of Manipur. Earlier, two children were killed in a rocket attack that sparked fresh unrest in the state.

Manipur police said that on April 7, about 500 protesters tried to storm a central armed forces camp in Gelmol village of Bishnupur. The firing was carried out after a force vehicle was set on fire and an attempt was made to enter a protected area.

On the same day, around 1 am, a rocket attack took place at a house in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai area of Moirang police station in Bishnupur district. Two children were killed in the explosion. Three suspects, who are members of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), have been arrested in the incident, police said. An AK-47 rifle, a pistol, ammunition, raw opium and cash were recovered from them.

It is worth noting that on February 13, the Solicitor General of the central government claimed in the Supreme Court that peace was returning to Manipur. Less than two months later, unrest flared up again.

Since May 2023, communal violence has been going on in Manipur between the Kuki and Meitei communities. At least 260 people were killed and more than 60,000 people were displaced in the clashes that began over the Meitei's scheduled caste status trial. As the situation deteriorated, President's rule was imposed in the state in February 2025.
