3 more children die, 980 new measles cases in 24 hours

Three more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours, while 980 new cases have been reported, according to the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday, June 9.

Since March 15, a total of 631 children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms. Among them, 92 children died from confirmed measles, while 539 died from suspected measles.

The number of confirmed measles cases has risen to 9,833, while 66,170 patients have been hospitalised with symptoms.

The DGHS said the rising trend of infections and deaths has created fresh concern for public health. In response, overall monitoring has been increased and treatment activities strengthened.

Public health experts have said that intensifying vaccination drives, rapid identification of infected patients and adherence to health protocols are crucial to preventing the spread of measles. Health authorities are closely monitoring the infection situation in various parts of the country.
