3 students killed as BMW falls off bridge in Mumbai

A BMW car lost control and fell off a bridge in Mumbai, India, killing three college students. Another young man in the car was critically injured in the incident.

The accident took place near Lotus Jetty on Mumbai's Coastal Road around 5:30am on Sunday, September 20.

Police said the car was heading from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali when the driver lost control due to excessive speed, causing it to fall off the flyover and be badly mangled. Police rushed to the scene after receiving the news and, with the help of locals, rescued the four injured and took them to Nair Hospital, where doctors declared three dead.

The identities of two of the deceased are known: Shanay Gajjal (21) and Dhairya Sheth (17). The identity of the third person is not known. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Ananya Aditya Oswal miraculously survived the accident. He is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, and his condition is critical.

It was learned that the deceased Shanay Gajjal was driving the car, while the other three were passengers. All four are residents of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. They are students of NMIMS College in Juhu, Mumbai, and lived in a paying guest (PG) hostel. At night, they all went out to Marine Drive together. They came under the accident on their way back from there.

Mumbai Police have started an investigation into the tragic accident.
