3-member commission formed for BCB election
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to hold its election in the first week of October. To oversee this, the board formed a three-member election commission on Saturday (September 6). A press release announced the names of the commission members.
Senior Advocate Mohammad Hossain of the Supreme Court has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner. He will be joined by Additional IGP of the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Sibgat Ullah and the Executive Director (Joint Secretary) of the National Sports Council.
After a board meeting in Sylhet on 1 September, it was announced that the election would be held in the first week of October. At that time, President Aminul Islam was tasked with proposing the names of the commission members. BCB has now officially released the list. The commission will soon announce the full schedule of the election.
Interest has already arisen for the president’s post. Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal has entered the race against the current president Aminul Islam.
BCB directors are elected from three categories—12 from clubs (Category-1), 10 from divisional sports organisations (Category-2), and one from former captains or representatives of various institutions (Category-3). In addition, the National Sports Council nominates two more directors.
In total, 25 directors are elected for a four-year term. The next BCB president will be determined by their votes.
