4 Bangladeshi women rescued from human trafficking ring in Hyderabad
In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, local police in Hyderabad have recently rescued four Bangladeshi women and adolescent girls who were illegally trafficked into India and forced into prostitution. The discovery has shed light on an organized trafficking network operating across several regions.
According to a report by Telangana Today on Monday, the police are closing in on a well-structured human trafficking ring responsible for smuggling vulnerable women and girls from Bangladesh into India. Exploiting the desperate economic conditions of poor families, traffickers lure victims with false promises of employment and a better life.
The rescued women were found in brothels located in Hyderabad’s Khairatabad, Chandrighat, and Bandlaguda areas—sites known for repeated incidents of trafficking. Authorities have noted that since the early 2000s, numerous women have been rescued from these locations. The trafficking network extends beyond Bangladesh, involving victims from Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.
Law enforcement officials reveal that victims are often smuggled through brokers via sea and land routes. The trafficking syndicates in both Bangladesh and India are reportedly well-organized and financially capable, employing intermediaries to facilitate their operations.
Before being brought to India, victims are often promised legitimate jobs and attractive salaries. However, upon arrival, traffickers produce fake local identity documents and transfer the victims to various cities where they are forced into prostitution.
Police officials emphasize that many women, men, and children enter India illegally due to poverty, assuming Bengali identities to avoid detection. According to the Central Welfare Board of India, 2.7% of those forced into prostitution in the country are Bangladeshi nationals, with trafficked victims being sold to brokers in major cities including Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
Investigations point to trafficking activities being coordinated primarily from Hyderabad neighborhoods such as Attapur, Bandlaguda, Chintalmet, Himayatsagar Road, and Champapet.
Authorities continue to pursue the trafficking network, aiming to dismantle the syndicate and provide relief to the victims.
