Two migrant boats capsized off the coast of Al-Khoms in Libya, leaving four Bangladeshi nationals dead, according to TRT World reports on Sunday (November 16).

The Libyan Red Crescent said the boats overturned on Thursday night near Al-Khoms. One vessel was carrying 26 Bangladeshis; rescuers recovered the bodies of four, while the remaining passengers survived.

The second boat was carrying 69 people—67 Sudanese, two Egyptians, and eight children. All were rescued alive.

Red Crescent teams recovered the bodies, rescued survivors, and provided emergency assistance at the scene.

Libya remains one of the main departure points for migrants attempting the dangerous Mediterranean crossing to Europe.

Following the 2011 fall of Muammar Gaddafi, the country became a key transit hub, with more than 850,000 migrants currently residing there amid ongoing instability and militia conflict.
