Four earthquakes were recorded in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday night, occurring within a span of just one and a half hours. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the first quake struck around 9:45 PM, approximately 275 kilometers from Port Blair in the Andaman Islands, at a depth of 10 kilometers below the sea bed. This initial tremor measured a magnitude of 5.0. Subsequently, three more quakes followed in nearby areas, registering magnitudes of 5.0, 4.9, and 4.6 respectively. The last earthquake was reported around 11:15 PM. Authorities confirmed that no tsunami warnings have been issued and there have been no reports of casualties or damage related to these seismic events.

মাত্র এক ঘণ্টা ৩০ মিনিটের ব্যবধানে বঙ্গোপসাগরে পরপর চারটি ভূমিকম্প হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ভূতাত্ত্বিক জরিপ সংস্থা (ইউএসজিএস)। মঙ্গলবার (২৯ জুলাই) রাতে এ ঘটনাটি ঘটে। ইউএসজিএস জানিয়েছে, প্রথম ভূমিকম্পটি রাত ৯টা ৪৫ মিনিটে আন্দামান দ্বীপপুঞ্জের পোর্ট ব্লেয়ার থেকে প্রায় ২৭৫ কিলোমিটার দূরে সাগরের ১০ কিলোমিটার গভীরে অনুভূত হয়। রিখটার স্কেলে এর মাত্রা ছিল ৫ দশমিক শূন্য। সংস্থাটি জানায়, পরবর্তী তিনটি ভূমিকম্প পোর্ট ব্লেয়ারের কাছাকাছি এলাকায় ঘটে, যেগুলোর মাত্রা ছিল ৫দশমিক শূন্য, ৪ দশমিক ৯ এবং ৪ দশমিক ৬। সর্বশেষ ভূকম্পনটি রাত ১১টা ১৫ মিনিটে রেকর্ড করা হয়। প্রশাসনের পক্ষ থেকে জানানো হয়েছে, এসব ভূমিকম্পের ফলে কোনো সুনামি সতর্কতা জারি করা হয়নি এবং এখন পর্যন্ত কোনো হতাহতের বা ক্ষয়ক্ষতির খবর পাওয়া যায়নি।
