4 member nations pull out of ACC meeting in Dhaka
Four member country of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC)—India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Oman—have decided to boycott the upcoming ACC meeting scheduled for July 24 in Dhaka, citing political and diplomatic tensions.
According to a report published by India Today, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially informed ACC President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi of its withdrawal. The report attributes the decision to recent political strains between India and Bangladesh.
Following India’s lead, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Oman have also opted out of the meeting, reportedly due to security and diplomatic concerns. Additionally, the upcoming tour of the Indian national team to Bangladesh has also been postponed.
The Dhaka meeting was expected to play a key role in discussions surrounding the Asia Cup 2025, especially with the tournament scheduled for September. However, the absence of four key members has cast doubt on the significance and effectiveness of the meeting.
ACC President Mohsin Naqvi was scheduled to chair the session, but the last-minute withdrawals raise concerns over regional cooperation and the coordination of future ACC events.
No official comment has yet been issued by the ACC or the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding the withdrawals.
