Five Indian soldiers have been killed during 'Operation Sindoor', a military operation carried out in Pakistan in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Indian Armed Forces.

Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai of the Indian Army confirmed the information at a press conference on Sunday (May 11).

“I pay my deepest respects to my five colleagues and fellow soldiers who lost their lives in Operation Sindhur,” said Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai.

He added, “The nation will always remember their sacrifice. We stand with the grieving families and express our heartfelt condolences.”

It is worth mentioning that on April 22, a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killed 26 people, most of whom were tourists. India blamed the Pakistan-backed terrorist groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed for the attack. In response, the Indian Army launched 'Operation Sindhur' on May 7.

The operation, which lasted from May 7 to May 10, included missile and drone strikes on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. India claims that 35–40 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the strikes.

India stated that the attacks targeted terrorist bases and related infrastructure. In retaliation, Pakistan also attacked Indian military positions.

Amid the exchange of attacks, a ceasefire agreement was made between the two countries on Saturday, mediated by the United States. However, within hours, both sides violated the agreement and engaged in conflict again.

The Indian Army has warned that if Pakistan breaks the ceasefire again, they will take even stronger action in response.
