Iranian security forces have arrested 54 individuals in the southern province of Khuzestan, accusing them of working for Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad.

They face serious charges including espionage, anti-state propaganda, and spreading rumors aimed at creating unrest in society.

According to Iran’s semi-official news agency, Fars News Agency, the Khuzestan prosecutor’s office stated that the detainees were collecting information for foreign intelligence services, spreading rumors as part of psychological warfare, and instilling fear among the public.

The prosecutor’s office added that preliminary investigations found evidence against the suspects of treason, security violations, and leaking information. A thorough investigation is ongoing, and formal judicial proceedings will begin soon.

This development comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, which turned into direct conflict on June 13. On that day, Israel launched airstrikes targeting multiple Iranian military bases and nuclear facilities.

In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile attacks on various locations in Israel, causing significant damage to buildings and infrastructure.

Israeli officials reported at least 25 Israeli citizens killed and hundreds injured in the Iranian counterattacks.

On the other hand, Iranian government and private media reported that at least 639 people were killed and over 1,300 injured in the Israeli strikes, with the southern and western regions suffering the most damage.
