5.5 magnitude earthquake jolts Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Pakistan, including the capital Islamabad and several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Friday morning (September 26).
According to a joint statement from the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) and the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the quake originated in the Hindu Kush mountain region at a depth of approximately 195 kilometers below the earth’s surface.
Tremors were felt in Peshawar, Attock, Chitral, and surrounding areas, causing widespread alarm among residents.
However, no casualties or property damage have been reported so far.
The region frequently experiences seismic activity due to its location along the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
The most recent major earthquake in the area occurred on August 31, when a 6.0 magnitude quake in Afghanistan claimed over 3,000 lives.
