55 years of 'Concert for Bangladesh': Tribute through 'The Legacy'

A special musical documentary titled 'The Legacy' has been released to mark the 55th anniversary of the iconic 'Concert for Bangladesh', a unique testament to humanity during Bangladesh's Liberation War.

The 'Concert for Bangladesh', organised on August 1, 1971, at the Madison Square Garden in New York by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, became a global symbol of humanitarian support for the war-ravaged people of Bangladesh.

In remembrance of that historic event, musician Jahangir Alam (Shrabon) has produced 'The Legacy'. It features a new presentation of Ravi Shankar's timeless 'Bangla Dhun' melody alongside Satyajit Ray's popular song 'Aha Ki Anand Akashe Batase' . The organisers said the initiative aims to weave together history, patriotism and Bengali cultural heritage to convey the spirit of the Liberation War to the new generation.

The musical documentary features sitar played by Jahangir Alam (Shrabon). Vocals are provided by Mahmudul Hasan, Sazia Sultana Putul and Barnali Sarkar.

Jahangir Alam (Shrabon) said, 'The Legacy' is not merely an attempt to commemorate a historical event; it is an initiative to convey the history of the Liberation War, the message of humanity and the spirit of the 'Concert for Bangladesh' to the new generation through music. At the same time, it pays tribute to the creative contributions of Pandit Ravi Shankar and Satyajit Ray.
