Six Syrian Army officers were killed in an Israeli drone strike south of Damascus, the capital of Syria. The incident was confirmed on Wednesday (August 27) by the state-run Al Ekhbariya TV.

According to the report, the drone targeted a Syrian military base near the town of Al-Kiswah, situated on the outskirts of Damascus. The attack came just a day after Syria denounced renewed Israeli military operations near the capital.

Earlier on Monday, Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Israel had deployed a 60-member military unit to take control of an area near Mount Hermon, a strategically significant location close to the Syria-Lebanon border.

Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December, Israel has launched hundreds of strikes on military facilities and assets throughout Syria. Simultaneously, it has expanded its presence in the demilitarized buffer zone of the Golan Heights—a move widely viewed as a violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

Israel has not issued any statement regarding the recent drone strike. However, Syrian Foreign Minister Asad al-Shaibani accused Israel of pursuing "expansionist and divisive plans," alleging that it is constructing intelligence and military infrastructure in zones designated to remain demilitarized or neutral.

Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlined his vision for a "Greater Israel," which extends beyond the West Bank and Gaza to include parts of Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, and Jordan.

In response, a coalition of 31 Arab and Islamic nations, along with the Arab League, strongly condemned Israel’s position, calling it a dangerous violation of international law and a threat to global stability.
