At least 60 people, including 20 children, have been killed in an Israeli missile strike targeting a residential area in Tehran, reports Al Jazeera.

The attack, which struck early Saturday (June 14), comes amid a sharp escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran. The latest figures add to an earlier toll shared by Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, who confirmed that 78 people were killed and over 320 injured in a wave of strikes that began Friday.

Among the dead are two high-ranking Iranian military officials—General Gholamreza Mehrabi and General Mehdi Rabbani—according to state media reports.

In response, the Iranian government has called on its citizens to unite in defense of the country. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi condemned the attacks and vowed retaliation. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the Iranian people to rise against their government, accusing Tehran of endangering regional security.
