In the past 24 hours, the bodies of 61 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza have been brought to various hospitals, including two who died in earlier strikes. Another 363 injured people have been admitted to hospitals. In addition, five more people — including two children — have died from starvation and malnutrition imposed on the besieged enclave.

The Hamas-run Health Ministry said that at least 10,000 more dead or injured Palestinians remain trapped under destroyed buildings and other rubble, beyond the reach of rescuers and health workers. Excluding them, the death toll in the nearly 22 months since the war began has reached 61,430, with at least 153,213 more wounded. Meanwhile, the number of starvation-related deaths has climbed to 217, including 100 children.

According to Al Jazeera, citing the ministry, on Sunday (August 10) between dawn and evening, 39 people were killed, 23 of whom had gone to humanitarian aid centers run by the U.S.- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) to receive food. Of the 22 other bodies recovered, 12 were among 20 people killed in overnight attacks from Saturday (August 9) into early Sunday; those 12 had also been seeking aid. In that 24-hour period, at least 304 others were injured by Israeli gunfire while trying to collect food.

Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported that at the Zikim crossing in northwest Gaza, six people were shot dead by Israeli forces while waiting at a GHF aid center; their bodies were taken to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. In Khan Younis, southern Gaza, eight people were killed at one aid center and two at another. Near the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza, four people died at an aid center, while another 15 died near a center in Rafah City.

In Shuja’iya, Israeli strikes targeting civilians killed four people, and about an hour earlier in the same area, three more had been killed. The seven victims were displaced individuals sheltering at a refuge, killed by bombs dropped from aircraft and drones.

The UN says GHF began operating its aid distribution centers on May 27. Since then, 1,396 Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli forces while trying to collect food — 882 near GHF centers and another 514 along aid convoy routes. However, Gaza’s Health Ministry puts the number of aid-seekers killed at 1,778, with more than 12,894 others injured.

On October 7, 2023, a Hamas attack killed 1,200 Israelis and took 251 hostages. In response, Israel launched ongoing military operations in various parts of Gaza.

Although the U.S. and other mediators pressured Israel into announcing a ceasefire on January 19 this year, the IDF resumed military operations on March 18. In this second phase of the offensive alone, 9,921 Palestinians have been killed and 41,172 wounded so far.
