A ship named 'MV Ubon Naree' carrying 62,150 metric tonnes of wheat from the United States has arrived at Chattogram port. The Ministry of Food shared this information in a press release on Friday, March 27.

The ministry said the wheat was imported under the G-to-G 3 cash purchase agreement in line with the memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Bangladesh. Previously, 58,457 metric tonnes of wheat had arrived in the country under the same agreement as the first shipment.

Sample testing of the wheat on the ship has already begun, and necessary arrangements are being made for rapid unloading. Of the 62,150 metric tonnes of wheat on board, 37,290 metric tonnes will be unloaded at Chattogram port and the remaining 24,860 metric tonnes at Mongla port.

Bangladesh has already started importing wheat from the US on a government-to-government basis. All wheat imported under agreements 1 and 2 has already arrived in the country.

The country's total wheat demand is 7 million metric tonnes. Domestic production is 1 million metric tonnes. The remaining wheat to meet demand is imported from abroad through public and private sectors.
