62,686 Palestinians killed in Gaza in Israeli attacks, 289 die of starvation
The bodies of 64 Palestinians killed and 278 injured in Israeli attacks across Gaza in a single day have been brought to various hospitals. In addition, eight more people, including a child, have died from forced starvation and malnutrition in the besieged valley.
The Gaza Health Ministry said that the death toll in the last 22 months since the war began on October 7, 2023, has reached 62,686, with at least 156,951 people injured. On the other hand, 289 people have died of starvation in the enclave declared by the United Nations to be in full-scale famine, 115 of whom are children.
Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported that Israeli forces have intensified their ground operations to seize control of the Palestinian enclave of Gaza. By Sunday afternoon (August 24), they had entered the Sabra area inside Gaza City, the largest urban center in the valley. Troops are advancing towards Jabalia in the north, continuing their offensive to capture the city and forcibly evict nearly a million residents. Air strikes, drones and bombings have also intensified.
Al Jazeera, citing medical sources, reported that 19 of the deaths in the previous 24 hours until Sunday evening were from Israeli soldiers who had gone to collect humanitarian aid at the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) relief center, and 197 were injured. This brings the number of aid seekers killed since the establishment of the Israeli- and US-backed GHF on May 27 to 2,095, and more than 15,431 injured.
