6.2-magnitude earthquake jolts Japan
A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Honshu, the largest island of Japan, late Thursday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences.
The quake took place at a depth of around 10 kilometres, making it relatively shallow and causing stronger ground shaking across affected areas.
The tremor follows a 4.2-magnitude earthquake that hit the same region on Wednesday, with a deeper epicentre of about 20 kilometres.
However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage, authorities said.
Japan lies along the seismically active Ring of Fire, where several tectonic plates—including the Pacific Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate—meet, making the country highly prone to earthquakes.
