At least 67 children were killed in Gaza even after last month’s US-mediated ceasefire, following two years of Israeli attacks, according to a report by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

In a Geneva press conference, UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires said the victims include a newborn girl killed in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, on Thursday, alongside several others. The previous day, seven more children lost their lives in ongoing attacks.

“These incidents are happening even during a ceasefire. The situation is horrifying and deeply concerning,” Pires said, stressing that every child represents a dream and a family, cut short by continued violence.

UNICEF estimates that since the conflict began in October 2023, at least 64,000 children in Gaza have been killed or injured, making them the largest victims of the war.

Child rights group Save the Children reports that in 2024, an average of 475 Palestinian children per month are permanently disabled, many suffering traumatic brain injuries or severe burns, describing Gaza as one of the deadliest regions for children in modern history.

Pires added that many children are sleeping outdoors or in flood-affected temporary shelters, with no safe refuge, and warned that the approaching winter poses an even greater threat to those living amid the rubble.
