7.4 magnitude earthquake strikes off Russia, Tsunami warning issued
A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Saturday morning (September 13), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 111 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 39 kilometers, reports Reuters.
Following the quake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning, stating that hazardous waves could impact coastal areas within 300 kilometers of the epicenter.
This event follows a previous 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the same region in July, which also triggered a widespread tsunami alert across the Pacific.
