76 more killed in Gaza, death toll nears 62,900
At least 76 people were killed and 298 others injured in the latest Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. The Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed this information on Wednesday evening.
According to the ministry’s statement, between Tuesday evening and Wednesday evening, hospitals received 76 bodies and 298 injured people. However, the actual number of casualties is feared to be higher, as many remain trapped under the rubble. Rescue work is also hampered due to shortages of equipment and manpower.
The latest figures show that nearly two years of Israeli military operations in Gaza have killed 62,895 people and injured at least 158,927. Among Wednesday’s victims, at least 10 died from hunger and malnutrition, including two children. This brings the total number of malnutrition-related deaths to 313.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue to attack Palestinians who gather for aid. Between Tuesday evening and Wednesday evening, at least 18 people were killed and 106 injured in such incidents. Since May 27 alone, 2,158 Palestinians have died while trying to collect aid, with more than 15,000 injured.
Israel began its military campaign in Gaza after Hamas launched a surprise attack on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages. After nearly one and a half years of continuous attacks, Israel declared a ceasefire on January 19 this year under international pressure.
However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the operation will continue until Hamas is completely weakened and hostages are freed. Meanwhile, the United Nations and the international community keep calling for an end to the war, but the situation in Gaza is becoming increasingly dire.
