8 remanded over gold theft from Dhaka airport customs warehouse

Eight people, including four customs officials, were placed on five-day remand each in a case lodged over theft of 55 kilograms of gold from customs warehouse at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
The eight remanded accused are- assistant revenue officers - Md Shahidul Islam, Saidur Islam Shahed, Akram Sheikh, and Md Masum Rana, sepoys - Md Mozammel Haque, Md Niamat Hawlader, Md Rezaul Karim and Md Afzal Hossain.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mehedi Hasan passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand each.
Assistant revenue officer of Dhaka Customs House Sohrab Hossain filed the case with Airport Police Station on September 3.
Gold bars and ornaments weighing 55.501 kilograms have been stolen from customs warehouse at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport recently.
The matter came into light while counting the gold inventory on September 2.
