83rd Venice Film Festival begins in Italy

The 83rd Venice Film Festival, one of the world's most prestigious film events, has commenced. The festival began on September 2 at Venice Lido in Italy and will continue until September 12. The final winners will be announced on the closing day of the festival.

At this year's festival, Hollywood actor George Clooney has been honoured with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award. Two Japanese films are competing for the festival's top prize, the Golden Lion. They are "Look Back," directed by Kore-eda Hirokazu, and "Master Nelson, Did You Kill People," directed by Tsukamoto Shinya.

American actress and filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal is serving as the jury president of the main competition. Italian actors Greta Scarano and Nicolas Maupas are hosting the opening and closing ceremonies.

The world's oldest film festival was established in 1932 and is held annually at Venice Lido in Italy. The festival's main attraction is the Golden Lion award for best film.
