9 more die of dengue, record 1,042 hospitalised

Nine more people have died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll this year to 212. During this time, 1,042 new patients were admitted to hospitals, the highest single-day figure of the year.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the figures in a bulletin on Sunday, October 5.

With the latest update, the total number of hospitalised patients due to dengue this year has reached 49,907.

The DGHS reported that in the past 24 hours, Dhaka South City Corporation alone recorded seven deaths. Two more deaths were reported from Dhaka North City Corporation and Chattogram Division, one each.

Dhaka Division reported the highest number of hospital admissions (201) in the past 24 hours. Additionally, Dhaka North City Corporation registered 198 new patients, Barishal Division 195, Dhaka South City Corporation 121, Chattogram Division 104, Rajshahi Division 82, Khulna Division 72, Mymensingh Division 41, Rangpur Division 23, and Sylhet Division five.

According to the DGHS, from January 1 to October 5, 212 people have died of dengue this year. Of them, 102 were from Dhaka South City Corporation, 32 from Barishal Division, 28 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 25 from Chattogram Division, 10 from Rajshahi Division, seven from Mymensingh Division, five from Khulna Division, and three from Dhaka Division.
