93 Palestinians, including three journalists, killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza
Mohammed al-Qawifi, along with three other journalists, was killed in an Israeli strike on Nasrpara in Gaza City. Qawifi, a correspondent for Safa News Agency and Al-Aqsa TV channel, was covering the war. The other two killed were photographer and broadcast engineer Ayman Haniyeh and journalist Iman al-Jamili.
Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported that Israel has killed at least 280 journalists and media workers since the start of the war in the besieged Palestinian territory on October 7, 2023, including 10 from the Al Jazeera media network. The Gaza government media office said 250 journalists and 30 media workers were among the dead.
Israeli forces bombed a shelter for displaced Palestinians on the roof of a residential building in Nasrpara on Monday morning (September 15). In addition to journalist Mohammed al-Quwaifi, another Palestinian was killed and several others were injured.
The Turkish news agency Anadolu News reported, citing the Gaza Health Ministry, that the bodies of 93 people killed in Israeli attacks have been brought to hospitals in the past 48 hours, and at least 703 people have been injured. All 86 of the dead were killed in Gaza City by Israeli shelling and bombing, bringing the total number of deaths in the past 23 months to 64,964, with at least 165,312 injured.
In addition, six more people have died, with a child from famine caused by the Israeli blockade, bringing the death toll from hunger and malnutrition to 428, 146 of whom are children. The Health Ministry said 150 people, including 31 children, have died since the UN-backed Hunger Monitoring System (IPC) declared northern Gaza a famine zone last month. There are fears that famine will also spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis in central and southern Gaza by the end of September. In total, 2.4 million people in the territory are facing famine since Israeli authorities completely closed all border crossings into Gaza on March 2.
The ministry said that as of Monday evening six people were killed and at least 94 were injured when Israeli forces opened fire on a group of people who were receiving humanitarian aid from the Israeli- and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is based in Gaza. Since the controversial GHF operation began on May 27, the number of aid seekers who have died has reached 2,500, while another 18,229 have been injured.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked the Gaza Strip, killing 1,200 Israelis and taking 251 hostages. There are still 48 prisoners in Gaza. At least 20 of them are believed to be alive. Israel is continuing its military operation across Gaza, claiming to rescue them.
Despite announcing a ceasefire on January 19 of this year under pressure from the United States and other mediating countries, Israel has been conducting military operations again since March 18. So far,12,413 59 Palestinians have been killed and 53,588 injured in this second phase of the operation.
