94.70% of garment factories complete Eid bonus payments: BGMEA

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has announced that 94.70 per cent of active garment factories in Dhaka and Chattogram have completed Eid bonus payments ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

In a statement issued on Monday (May 25), BGMEA said that out of 2,133 operational garment factories across the two major industrial regions, 2,021 factories have already paid Eid bonuses to workers.

According to the industry body, Dhaka currently has 1,794 active factories, while 340 factories are operating in Chattogram.

The association also reported that 2,117 factories — equivalent to 99.20 per cent of the total — have cleared April salaries. Among them, 1,783 factories are located in Dhaka and 334 in Chattogram.

Meanwhile, advance salary payments for May have so far been completed by 767 factories, accounting for 35.94 per cent of the total establishments.

BGMEA said preparations are also underway at different levels to ensure smooth holiday travel and uninterrupted leave facilities for garment workers during the Eid season.
