A hattrick of defeats for Bangladesh

Bangladesh have suffered their third consecutive defeat in ongoing ICC ODI World Cup in India. The hosts defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in Pune today. Team India reached the target of 257 runs with 51 balls remaining.

Virat Kohli scored his 48th ODI century, remaining unbeaten on 103 off 97 balls. 'King Kohli' hit 6 fours and 4 sixes in the innings. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 34 runs off 34 balls. Skipper Rohit Sharma made 48 runs off 40 balls. His opening partner Shubman Gill played an innings of 53 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 2 wickets for Bangladesh.

Earlier, Bangladesh's stand-in skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bat first. Bangladesh scored 256 runs for 8 wickets after 50 overs Bangladesh openers Liton Das and Tanzid Tamim got off to a brilliant start as they scored a 93-run partnership. Tanzid Tamim smashed his maiden ODI fifty. He was trapped lbw for a 43-ball 51 by Kuldeep Yadav. Liton Das played an innings of 66 runs off 82 balls.


Skipper Shanto could not lead the team from the front. The left-hander returned to the pavilion after scoring only 8 runs off 17 balls. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also failed with the bat. He could not score more than 3. Towhid Hriday got out after playing a slow innings of 16 runs off 35 balls. Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah helped Bangladesh to cross 250. Mushfiq scored 38 runs off 46 balls while Mahmudullah played an innings of 46 runs from just 36 balls.


Bangladesh, who started the World Cup with a victory against Afghanistan, lost to England, New Zealand and India in the next three matches.
