The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an inquiry into former president Abdul Hamid over allegations of causing state losses of Tk 24 crore through beautification works in Nikunja-1, as well as accumulating illicit wealth.

ACC director general (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development to the media on Sunday.

He said the commission does not evaluate an individual’s position or identity but rather considers the factual basis of allegations.

Hamid resides in a three-storey duplex house on plot no. 6 at Lake-Drive Road in Nikunja, a prominent residential area in the capital. After completing his presidential tenure, he moved into the residence with his family in April 2023.

It has been alleged that millions in state resources were spent on constructing decorative walkways, aesthetic decks, a hanging bridge, and modern lamp posts beside the canal and surrounding roads adjacent to the property.
