Actor Rajesh Sharma hospitalised after suffering insect bite
Prominent Tollywood and Bollywood actor Rajesh Sharma has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata after falling seriously ill from a toxic insect bite during a film shoot in Hyderabad. He is currently under close observation at a private medical facility. Following the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has demanded an inquiry regarding safety standards on film sets.
According to media reports, the incident occurred at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad while the actor was working on the upcoming Prabhas-starrer movie Fauji. He was bitten by an insect, which initially seemed minor. However, a severe infection subsequently developed, causing the actor to suffer from a high fever and breathing difficulties. As his physical condition rapidly deteriorated, he was rushed to a private hospital in Kolkata upon his return.
Attending doctors stated that the actor is not yet completely out of danger and remains under constant medical supervision.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association expressed deep concern over the incident. AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta questioned why the actor was not immediately shifted to a major hospital in Hyderabad as his condition began to worsen.
The association asserted that ensuring the safety and well-being of the cast and crew is the moral and legal responsibility of the production house. Consequently, they have urged Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to initiate a high-level, impartial investigation into the matter. The cine body also demanded strict legal action against those responsible if any negligence regarding safety and hygiene protocols is proven. Furthermore, they called upon the production house of Fauji to bear the entire cost of Rajesh Sharma’s medical treatment.
The directors or producers of Fauji have not yet issued any official statement regarding the incident.
Equally popular in both Tollywood and Bollywood, Rajesh Sharma has delivered memorable performances in numerous acclaimed films, including 'Parineeta', 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', 'Ishqiya', 'No One Killed Jessica', and 'The Dirty Picture'.
