Actress Jyotika Jyoti breaks down on Facebook Live over trolling

Television and film actress Jyotika Jyoti broke down in tears during a Facebook Live session on Monday, August 3, as she opened up about her ongoing mental and professional struggles. She alleged that she has been systematically kept away from work for a long time and that negative campaigns from various quarters have left her socially and professionally isolated .

In her Facebook Live on Monday evening, Jyoti said she feels extremely helpless. She claimed that she has been subjected to trolling, abuse and personal attacks on social media for a long time, and that these have impacted her career as well. She alleged that an influential group has been keeping her away from work, and due to various group dynamics, she is not getting opportunities in new dramas or films. Overcome with emotion, she appealed to the government, saying, "Please put an end to this" .

During the live broadcast, Jyoti further said, "I made a mistake by being born in this Bangladesh." At one point, she broke down in tears .

Jyotika Jyoti's political affiliations have also been a subject of discussion in the past. She was a member of the widely discussed WhatsApp group "Alo Ashbei". Additionally, being known as an Awami League-supporting artiste, she has previously complained of facing various adversities following the 2024 student-people's uprising . Earlier in September 2024, she came into the spotlight regarding the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, where she was serving as the Director of the Research Department at the time. When rumours spread on social media that she had been confined to her office, she appeared on Facebook Live to explain her situation .

During that time, Jyoti had said she was discouraged from going to the office due to the prevailing situation. Despite this, she went to the office out of a sense of duty and faced a tense atmosphere. Later, following the Director General's advice, she left the office with her personal belongings .

Recalling that incident, she said that although she wanted to speak with people outside who she knew, no one seemed interested in talking to her. With a tearful voice, she said, "The faces that were once familiar felt very unfamiliar that day" .

It may be mentioned that Jyotika Jyoti, a postgraduate in English literature, began her journey in showbiz through a beauty pageant in 2004. In addition to television dramas, she has acted in several acclaimed films, including Ayna, Nandito Noroke, Jibondhuli, Anil Bagchir Ekdin, Maya: The Lost Mother, Lal Moroger Jhuti, and the Kolkata production Rajlakshmi O Srikanta .
