Debu Prasad Roy, father of film actress Puja Cherry, has been arrested in a case of embezzling over Tk 13 crore in the name of film production. Police arrested him on Saturday, April 25, in a fraud case filed by Mizanur Rahman. A court later ordered him sent to jail.

Cantonment Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rakibul Hasan confirmed the matter.

The OC said a case was filed against Debu Prasad Roy on charges of Tk 13 crore fraud by the victim, Mizanur Rahman. He was arrested in that case and produced before the court. Police are now verifying transaction statements.

According to the case filing, Debu Prasad Roy borrowed Tk 5.50 crore in cash from Mizanur Rahman on September 15, 2019, at his residence in West Matikata under Cantonment Police Station after luring him into the film production business. Later, using the same pretext, he took another Tk 50 lakh through Standard Bank and Tk 6 crore in cash on May 15, 2024, through a non-judicial stamp. An additional Tk 1.20 crore was sent through bKash, Nagad and Rocket at various times. Most recently, on March 30 this year, the victim sent another Tk 10,200 at the accused's request via bKash.

Mizanur Rahman alleged that despite a long time passing, the accused did not return any money. When asked for the money, he made excuses and later threatened him. He claimed that a total of Tk 13,20,10,200 was embezzled by exploiting his trust. He said he gave the money because of his previous acquaintance with Puja Cherry.

When contacted, Puja Cherry told the media, "I have no connection with this complaint or case. Although it is a family matter, I have no information about it. The legal process is underway, and the honourable court will decide on this matter."
