After TV serial, 'Naagin' now heading to silver screen
At one time, the name 'Naagin' was one of the reasons for viewers' excitement on television. Shape-shifting serpents, revenge, love and mystery — all combined to keep this popular franchise ahead in the TRP race for years. Now, it may be coming to the big screen. Producer Ekta Kapoor's recent social media post has fuelled that speculation.
On the occasion of Nag Panchami on August 17, Ekta Kapoor released a teaser video on Instagram, featuring glimpses of popular characters and moments from the previous seasons of 'Naagin'. Through the video, she indicated that after ruling television for 11 years, preparations are underway to take this iconic franchise to a larger platform.
However, Ekta Kapoor's production house Balaji Telefilms is yet to make any official announcement regarding the film's title, release date or cast. As a result, it cannot be confirmed yet that 'Naagin' is coming as a film. However, fans believe from the language of Ekta's post that the plan to bring 'Naagin' to the big screen is quite advanced.
'Naagin' began its journey on Colors TV in 2015. The fantasy drama, centred on the story of shape-shifting serpents and revenge, quickly gained popularity among viewers. Over 11 years, seven seasons of the series have been aired. The seventh season concluded in June this year.
In the first two seasons, Mouni Roy's performance and glamour took 'Naagin' to the top of the TRP charts. Later, actresses like Surbhi Jyoti, Nia Sharma, Surbhi Chandna, Tejasswi Prakash and Priyanka Chahar Choudhary also played the Naagin characters, captivating audiences.
However, if 'Naagin' comes as a film, the biggest question now is: will any of the old Naagins return, or will a new face be seen in this iconic role? The answer to that will only come after an official announcement.
Earlier, in 2020, producer Nikhil Dwivedi had announced a 'Naagin' trilogy with Shraddha Kapoor. However, work on that project has been stalled for a long time. On the other hand, Dharma Productions' film 'Nagzilla' with Kartik Aaryan is scheduled for release in February 2027.
All in all, if Ekta Kapoor's 'Naagin' does come to the big screen, the familiar small-screen story of snakes and serpentesses may now be presented to audiences on a larger scale with vibrant production and a cinematic atmosphere.
