Najmul Hossain Shanto, captain of Bangladesh mens cricket team, expressing confidence in the team's ability to challenge for the Champions Trophy title, saying, "We are aiming to become champion."

He made the remark during an official press conference in Mirpur on Wednesday (February 12), ahead of the Champions Trophy campaign, which is set to begin on Thursday, February 13.

"Our team has the ability to become champions. If we can play to our potential, it's certainly possible," he said.

Shanto outlined the team's goal of becoming champions, acknowledging that all eight teams in the tournament have the potential to win.

Shanto emphasized that despite the tough competition, the team is focused on delivering strong performances and is preparing to make the nation proud.

However, he highlighted the challenges that lie ahead in the group stage, with formidable opponents like India, Pakistan, and New Zealand.

The captain also addressed comments from head coach Phil Simmons, who had previously stated that the team’s preparation had not been ideal. Shanto disagreed, asserting that the team has prepared well, with room for further preparation ahead of the tournament. "I don't think the coach said that. We have prepared very well, and there's still time to fine-tune before we leave for Dubai," Shanto clarified.

While Shanto expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, he also acknowledged the absence of star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for the tournament, stating, "We will definitely miss Shakib, but we are ready to step up and give our best."
