State-run carrier Air India has announced a reduction in flights on several international routes, including a temporary suspension of services on the Mumbai-Dhaka route and a reduction in the number of flights on the Delhi-Dhaka route from seven to four per week, effective from June through August.

Air India cited airspace restrictions in certain regions and record-high jet fuel prices as reasons for the decision, which has made operating long-haul routes increasingly expensive. The airline said it took the decision in advance to avoid last-minute cancellations and ensure network stability.

The changes will also affect several other routes. Services on the Delhi-Chicago, Mumbai-New York and Delhi-Newark routes will remain suspended for the time being. Flights to San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver will also be reduced. In Europe, weekly flights to Paris, Rome, Zurich, Vienna, Milan and Copenhagen will be cut. On Australia routes, services to Sydney and Melbourne will be reduced from daily to four flights per week. In Asia, the Delhi-Shanghai route will remain suspended until August, and flights to Kathmandu, Colombo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will also be reduced.

Despite the changes, Air India said it would continue operating more than 1,200 international flights per month across five continents. The airline also assured affected passengers of alternate bookings or ticket refunds in case of flight cancellations or schedule changes.
