Algeria secured a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Jordan on Tuesday, June 23, earning their first win of the tournament and confirming Jordan's elimination from the World Cup.

Jordan had taken the lead in the first half through Nizar Al-Rashdan's goal in the 36th minute, marking the first time in World Cup history that Jordan had led in a match. Algeria, despite dominating possession, struggled to break down Jordan's organised five-man defence.

However, Algeria mounted a strong comeback in the second half. Substitute Nadhir Benbouali equalised in the 69th minute with a powerful header from captain Riyad Mahrez's free-kick delivery. Amin Gouiri then scored the winner to complete the turnaround.

Algeria had earlier missed several chances, with Mahrez failing to capitalise on two good opportunities in the first half. Jordan goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila made several impressive saves to keep his side ahead, but ultimately could not prevent the Algerian fightback.

The result puts Algeria on four points from two matches, keeping their knockout hopes alive, while Jordan face elimination with two defeats.
