Bangladeshi archer Abdur Rahman Alif has won gold in the recurve men’s individual event at the Asian Cup Archery, held in Singapore.

In a thrilling final, Alif edged past Japan’s Gakuto Miyata with a 6-4 set point victory on Friday. He started strong, scoring 28 in the first set against Miyata’s 27 to take a 2-0 lead. Alif extended his advantage in the second set, scoring 29 to Miyata’s 28.

However, the momentum briefly shifted as Alif lost the third and fourth sets, scoring 27 and 26 against Miyata’s 28 and 27. With the scores tied at 4-4, the match went into a decisive fifth set.

Rising to the occasion, Alif delivered a near-perfect performance, scoring 29 out of 30. Miyata, under pressure, managed only 26, handing Alif the gold medal.

In recognition of his outstanding achievement, former general secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation, Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, awarded Alif a prize of 1,000 Singapore dollars immediately after the victory.

Alif is considered one of Bangladesh’s most promising young recurve archers, following in the footsteps of Roman Sana, who previously brought international acclaim to the country in the same discipline.
